 Examples of Poor Performance

Absenteeism

  • Unauthorized leave
  • Excessive use of sick leave
  • Frequent absences or tardy on Monday, Friday, or the day after payday
  • Leaving work early on a regular basis
  • Higher absenteeism than other employees
  • Frequent and unscheduled short-term absences with or without medical explanations
On-the-job absenteeism
  • Pattern of unnecessary absences from post
  • Frequent trips to water fountain or rest room
  • Long coffee or smoke breaks
  • Increased personal phone calls
  • Pattern of physical illness on the job

High Accident Rate
  • Increase on the job
  • Off the job accidents that affect work

Difficulty in concentration
  • Work requires greater effort than usual
  • Job takes more time
  • Difficulty in focusing on task completion

Decreasing Job Efficiency
  • Missed deadlines
  • Mistakes in tasks usually done well

  • Waste of materials

  • Poor decision making

  • Improbable excuses for poor work performance

Inconsistent Work Patterns
  • Alternate periods of high and low productivity

  • Starts, but does not finish projects

Appearance
  • Deterioration in personal appearance

  • Coming to or returning to work in an obviously abnormal condition

Confusion
  • Difficulty recalling detailed instructions

  • Increase in difficulty handling complex assignments

  • Difficulty recalling ones own mistakes
