NYS-Ride is a program that allows New York State employees to
save money on eligible public transportation expenses by paying
for the costs on a pre-tax basis through biweekly payroll
deduction. Beginning July 2, 2008, you may take advantage of this
pre-tax benefit by paying for your public transportation expenses,
such as fares for buses, trains, and subways by enrolling in NYS-Ride.
By enrolling in NYS-Ride, you can save money on work-related
transportation expenses–fares for riding buses, trains, subways,
and other types of mass transit or vanpools–and support a
greener New York.
The IRS has increased the allowable pre-tax amount effective for
the January 2009 benefit month, you may set aside up to $120 per
month in pre-tax salary when you enroll in NYS-Ride.
Employees who participate in NYS-Ride save up to 40 percent on
transportation expenses and average $416 in savings annually.
There is no open enrollment period. You must enroll two months
prior to the month you would like to participate. For additional
