How to Add a Discussion Forum
- Log into your ANGEL course and click the Lessons tab.

- Click the Add Content hyperlink (located on the left side of the toolbar).

- Click the Discussion Forum hyperlink or icon. The Discussion Forum Content page appears.
On the Content tab:

- Enter a Title for your drop box.
- Enter a Subtitle for your drop box. The subtitle is used to provide additional information concerning the content item.
- Type or paste text in the Directions field. Click the HTML Editor hyperlink to add or edit formatting to the page text.
- When in advanced mode, the option to moderate a discussion forum is available: Enabling moderation for a discussion forum prevents posts made by students from being visible to other students initially.The instructor has the option to Approve or Reject each post before it is seen by other students. (Directions on how to moderate are located at the bottom is this document.
On the Access tab:

- Select User Tracking. This is an optional setting and is used to track when users view or access a content item.
If users are allowed to view the content item, select the Do not allow users to view this item checkbox.
- Select the Viewable By option. By default Students is selected.
Enter a Password. This is an optional setting and is used to restrict access to a content item.
- Select Team Access. This is an optional setting and is used to restrict access to a particular team. ( More options are available if you are set to the advances setting.
On the Post Permissions tab:

By default, all teams are granted read, new post and reply permissions. The team post permissions are:
Read – indicates that the team members can read all posts
New Posts – indicates that the team members can create new posts
Reply – indicates that the team members can reply to all posts.
Select the specific permission, per team, by selecting the corresponding read, new post and reply checkboxes.
On the Assignment tab:

- Select the Task Type for the Milestone Settings. This is an optional selection.
- Select the Assignment in the Gradebook Settings. This is an optional selection.
- Click the Save button when all desired items are complete.
To Moderate a Discussion Forum:
- Log into your ANGEL course and click the Lessons tab.
- Click the hyperlink name of the discussion forum you wish to moderate.
- Click the hyperlink Subject name of the post you want to review. The post appears in the lower half of the discussion screen. Review the post.
- To unapprove the post, click the Unapprove hyperlink located in the upper right of the post reviewing area. The navigation in the upper right of the post reviewing area changes to Reject, Approve or Delete if the Unapprove hyperlink is clicked. The icon next to the unapproved post also changes to reflect the post has been unapproved.
- To reject a posting, click the Reject hyperlink after unapproving the post. Rejecting the post removes the post from student view.
- To view rejected postings, click the Search hyperlink in the upper right toolbar and select the Rejected checkbox.
- Click the Search button to search for all posts meeting your selected criteria.
How to Grade a Discussion Forum:
Grading a discussion forum can be handled via the rating of a post or grading directly in the gradebook.
- Log into your ANGEL course and click the Lessons tab.
- Click the name of the discussion forum you wish to grade.
- Click the hyperlinked subject name of the post you wish to rate. The post appears in the bottom of the discussion forum page.
- Type the rating in the Rating field (located on the bottom left corner of the discussion forum page).
- Click the Save button. Once all the posts have been given a rating, click the Utilities hyperlink in the upper left toolbar.
- Click the Grade Forum hyperlink. The grading page appears. Viewing the total posts, points earned, points possible, and percentage points earned assists you in determining the grade for this discussion forum.
- Type the grade in the Grade field.
- Place any comments in the Comments field.
- Click the Submit Grades button.
