ANGEL
ANGEL is the official learning management system at Buffalo State College. For a list of dates and times for workshops on how to use ANGEL,, please see Cyber Quad Registration Page
More information about ANGEL and documentation for ANGEL is available at www.buffalostate.edu/angel.
You can also locate information within ANGEL . Log into ANGEL, and you should see a link named ANGEL Faculty Resource within the Repository Nugget on your ANGEL Home page. If you are teaching with ANGEL and do not see this link please contact angelhelp@buffalostate.edu and request to be added to the ANGEL Faculty Resource LOR.
How ANGEL was chosen:
Blackboard, the previous course management system, was adopted in 2000. Support for the version we used was discontinued, creating an opportunity for the campus to re-evaluate its course management needs. During fall 2004, a course management system task force, comprised of 35 faculty and seven professional staff, was established. The task force evaluated Blackboard Enterprise, SUNY CourseSpace, and ANGEL. The task force overwhelmingly recommended that Buffalo State adopt ANGEL.
Turnitin
Buffalo State has campus-wide license to Turnitin.com for unlimited submissions of student papers for plagiarism detection.
“Turnitin.com is an online resource for educators and students concerned with developing quality writing and research skills. Turnitin.com provides a reliable, efficient, and powerful deterrent to digital plagiarism.” (from http://www.Turnitin.com).
Turnitin and ANGEL 7 have been integrated. Within your ANGEL course, you can add a Turnitin dropbox where your students can submit a paper and an Originality Report can be provided.

If not using ANGEL, but are interested in Turnitin.com e-mail angelhelp@buffalostate.edu for Buffalo State's usercode and directions.
Faculty who choose to use Turnitin are advised to include the following statement in their course syllabi:
Faculty may require students to use textual similarity detection software (e.g. Turnitin.com) in courses at Buffalo State College. Textual similarity detection software compares submitted student text to a database of millions of previously published documents, including those on the public Internet, a proprietary collection of published articles, as well as every student paper previously submitted to the detection service. When similarities between student text and an existing document are found, the software identifies those similarities for instructor and/or student review. (Similarity alone is not evidence of academic misconduct; as such material may be correctly cited.) This software may be used as an educational tool to assist students in learning how to properly cite resources, to decrease instances of academic misconduct, and/or to assist in the identification of acts of academic misconduct.
If the syllabus has already been distributed in class, a notice needs to be provided in writing to the students.
Students should also be provided a copy of the College's Academic Dishonesty Policy and a link to the student directions on how to create an account and submit papers to Turnitin.com. See Turnitin Student Instructions.
Electronic Learning Policy
Interested faculty should consult the policy in place regarding electronic learning and be aware of additional academic department specific practices. |
