Geofest 2006 is scheduled for October 21st (Saturday) at Hunter College. Over 20 workshops are planned. While the focus will be on New York City a number of general workshops will be presented. There will be something for everyone! Presentations will also be given on the Geography Action Theme (Africa), AP Geography, the upcoming Erie Canal Summer Institute, and My Wonderful World (a National Geographic-led Campaign). A vendors exhibit will take place as part of Geofest.

Earth Adventure Education Programs, Presenter: John Bilotta, Director of Education, Earth Adventure
Earth Adventure provides interactive and interdisciplinary education programs focusing on building geography, earth science, environmental awareness and mapping skills. EA Programs have been popular in NY in the recent past. EA recently applied for a large Model Program NGS grant, which if funded, will partner with the NY Geographic Alliance and others to develop and deliver programs specifically targeted at increasing geographic literacy. At this workshop you will learn about Earth Adventure and its unique tools - the Earth Balloon and the Earth Walk!
News Paper in Education (presented by Briavel Holcomb and Tamar Rothenberg)- Using the newspaper as a primary document, this workshop will explore the connections between New York, the Global City, and the continent of Africa, including migration, cultural diffusion, economic, social and political connections. Presented by an accredited member of the New York Daily News Educational Programs Advisory Board. Handouts, hands-on activities, FREE Daily News classroom subscriptions, supplementary resources, raffles, and tchotchkes.
