1. Newspaper in Education Feature
Newspaper in Education (NIE) and the NYGA have partnered to present a series of Geography Action features as part of Geography Awareness Week (November 14 - 20th). The "World Cultures" feature includes a brief explanation of culture, suggested activities for the classroom, and a letter from Australia, Lithuania, China, South Africa, and Haiti. The letters act as passports aloowing your students to explore another culture. The students are also asked to write a letter about their culture. The following newspapers have agreed to publish the "World Cultures" series during Geography Awareness Week:

3. The Sounds of Place Contest

This contest is open only to Niagara County students. Not in Niagara county? Why not consider doing something similar in your own county. Click on the station call letters to learn more.
Each day Richard Green and Scott Leffler at Radio Lockport (WLVL) will run a different sound, unique to Niagara County. Students who correctly identify the five sounds and their location will be eligible to win prizes for themselves and for your school!
