Our Mission....

The New York Geographic Alliance (NYGA) seeks to promote and to improve geographic education from Kindergarten through University throughout New York State. As a discipline, geography is disappearing from our schools, and, more than ever, there is a need to revitalize geographic education in the State's classrooms.
We are dedicated to working with teachers

    • to provide geographic training and resources,
    • to actively foster standard-based geographic learning,
    • to infuse geography in other disciplines, and
    • to promote geography training for pre-service teachers.

Membership in the NYGA is free. The New York Geographic Alliance provides teachers with access to geographic materials, opportunities for professional development and interaction, and other educational resources. Most of the NYGA's members are K-12 teachers, but the membership also includes college and university professors, school administrators, and others interested in the NYGA's mission.

The NYGA is part of a nationwide network of state geographic alliances, partnered with the National Geographic Society.
