Shuttleworth Stream and Springville Trout Pond (Erie County)

Students: 47 students from 6th, 7th and 8th grade classes

Students from St. Aloysius braved a light drizzle while sampling the stream and walked a few miles to sample the pond.

Samples were collected on May 18, 1998.

Shuttleworth Stream 

Water Quality Index = 82.1

Dissolved Oxygen = 9.2 ppm

Dissolved Oxygen Saturation = 85%

Phosphate = 0.05 ppm

Nitrate = 0.1 ppm

Secchi Depth = > 2.5 feet

Temperature = 12.7oC

Dissolved Solids = 299.6 ppm

Suspended Solids = 10.9 ppm

Total Solids = 310.5 ppm

pH = 7.2

Benthic Organisms: damesfly, stonefly nymph, mayfly, midge larva, and cranefly.

E-coli = 1/mL

 

Springville Trout Pond

Water Quality Index = 80.5

Dissolved Oxygen = 11.3 ppm

Dissolved Oxygen Saturation = 119%

Phosphate = 0.04 ppm

Nitrate = 0.3 ppm

Secchi Depth = > 3 feet

Temperature = 18.4oC

Dissolved Solids = 273 ppm

Suspended Solids = 9.45 ppm

Total Solids = 282.45 ppm

pH = 7.2

Benthic Organisms: damesflies and snails. Many student sheets indicated "lots of bugs".
