The Aquanaut Training Program was designed with today's curriculum in mind. It provides teachers with a user friendly water quality water sampling program, which will provide schools and community based groups in Niagara and Erie counties with curriculum, training, supplies and support enabling them to conduct a meaningful health assessment of a lake or stream within their community.

The Aquanaut Training Program is administered through the Great Lakes Center at Buffalo State College. The strength of the Aquanaut Training Program is its emphasis on local schools, a phased approach, and flexibility. A resource person will work with your school to develop a program suitable to your needs and to help you conduct these activities with your students. We believe it is important that the teacher be a part of the experience. The program's core is a field sampling experience at a community stream or lake. This experience is sandwiched between a number of preparatory and interpretive activities. The types of activities (classroom and in the field) and where you conduct the field experiments are chosen by the teacher.

The Aquanaut Training Program is a local affiliate of the Global Rivers Environmental Education Network (GREEN). This allows teachers and students access to a number of activities and networking opportunities around the world.
