CASTL/SOTL FELLOWSHIPS
Three new CASTL Fellows join our advisory committee. Fellows undertake
research that advances their personal agendas, as well as contributing to
the growing knowledge of how classroom activities impact student learning.
John Cabra, Assistant Professor in the International Center for Studies in Creativity will study the effects of teaching statistics using visual Java applets and Minitab macros on student attitudes toward, engagement with, and understanding of statistics.
Adrienne Costello, Assistant Professor of English will conduct a qualitative case-study documenting the role of Multimodal Literacy Practices in cultivating in students the dispositions towards learning and “habits of mind” that will enable them to successfully engage in focused and disciplined exploration of curricular topics and complex subjects in a course based on Shakespeare.
Gary Welborn, Associate Professor of Sociology will investigate the role of service-learning pedagogy in helping students to breakdown stereotypes and prejudices and in building sensitivity and commitment to social justice issues.
