Creativity Based Information Resources (CBIR)

About CBIR

Creativity Based Information Resources (CBIR) is a bibliographic database containing annotated records (paragraph summaries) of materials focused specifically on the subject of creativity, problem solving, thinking skills, teaching and learning, and related concepts.

When you search CBIR, you will get a bibliography that meet your search parameters. Upon clicking upon an item in the bibliography, the annotation for that item will be displayed. CBIR provides you with complete citation information so that you can then locate that item in your local library (ask the librarian if you need assistance). The type of materials that can be found in CBIR include:

  • Journal articles
  • Books
  • Chapters from edited books
  • Doctoral dissertations and masters theses
  • Technical reports
  • Magazine and newsletter articles
  • Conference proceedings
  • Audio/Visual materials
CBIR began about 1988 and new materials continue to be prepared for the system. CBIR uses a Controlled Vocabulary (a 'subject list') to catalog all of the records. CBIR was made available on the Internet in 1997 with the assistance of the Computer and Information Technologies Department. It was upgraded in 2002 with the assistance of Computing Services as part of a grant from Creative Initiatives Foundations and unveiled in January, 2003.
