This article presents an overview of gifted education beginning with acceleration in math, science and technology stemming from competition with the Soviet Union's launch of Sputnik. During the 20th century various curriculum models were developed including ones based on acceleration, enrichment, problem focused and creativity focused models. The author suggests that a blending of these models through collaboration of scholars and members of the fields would best serve gifted learners.
