Mintzberg, Henry. (1991). Planning on the left side and managing on the right. In Henry, Jane (Ed.), Creative Management (pp. 58-71). London: Sage Publication.

Type of Resource: Book Chapter

A dialogue that attributes logical, linear analytical thinking processes, such as language, math, and verbal communication, to the left hemisphere of the brain, while holistic, rational thinking (visual images and big picture) belong to the right side. The author's research with managers making decisions at the policy level of organizations indicates more reliance on the intuitive right hemisphere where personal judgement comes into play. Ten areas of management activates which require right brain thinking are cited.

Brain hemisphericity / Right brain / Business / Management / Problem solving / Decision making / Intuition
