The study sought to replicate a previous study in which training in problem solving had been shown to improve the quality of group decisions. The study sought to determine the effects of training in overcoming obstacles to task knowledge. The previous study was shown to be flawed, and while replication did not occur, other important findings resulted from this study. The researchers found member ability within group problem solving greatly affects group performance. While the replication failed to prove how intervention improves group member contributions to task, suggestions for future action implies improving technical knowledge of task, first in group members, before improving utilization of the task knowledge.
