The type of task and the constraints such as time and desired future state will cause the problem solver to implement certain problem solving strategies such as improvisation or strategic planning to meet the goal within the constraints. A study withchildren revealed their planning strategies do adapt to circumstances. Speed or improvisation do not necessarily lead to a better performance, however.
