This study details emergent leadership within a problem solving task. Goal- setting strategies, pathways to goals and the group's cohesiveness and leadership were examined to determine the type of leadership and product developed in an unstructured task. Groups who applied structure to the task emerged as true leadership with completed tasks, while those who failed to cooperate or apply structure to their tasks were unable reach an acceptable level of performance.
