A study of small group versus individual problem solving sought to examine the types of tasks that benefit from certain types of approaches. Conjunctive problems, where success depends on all or most members, and multistage problems, where one stage depends on the success of the previous one to coordinate group skills, were studied. The study found increased motivation, grades, relationships and final exam grades as positive outcomes of this ten- year study.
