Avarello explored the impact a Buffalo State College Creative Studies course had on educationally at-risk undergraduate students (N=22). Data was collected in the form of personal interviews (nine students chosen at random before the end of the semester), faculty evaluations (a standard course evaluation) and a course questionnaire (adapted from the questionnaire used at the conclusion of the Creative Studies Project). Qualitative methodologies were used to identify themes found from the interviews and the course questionnaire. These findings were then triangulated against the faculty evaluations. Findings suggest that students were positively affected in a number of areas including improved self-image, increased willingness to participate in class, increased problem- solving skills and a greater appreciation of a student/teacher relationship.
