This research study examined the existence of adaptive and innovative style traits in individuals from a variety of occupations. A newly developed measure called the LIST (Langan Inventory of Self-identified Traits) was used to acquire an adaptive/innovative trait ratio for each of the participants. These ratios were examined for dominant style tendencies, adaptive and innovative trait mean scores, and the the difference between trait mean scores for each occupational group. Graduate students in the Creative Studies program completed the card sort method to rank the occupational groups according to creative level. These rankings were compared to the styles reported by the various occupational groups. Results showed a significant correlation which indicated that those ranked higher for creativity reported a stronger tendancy for Kirton's innovator style. Also provided are findings in regard to trait balance, changes in style with age, and most and least popular traits chosen per occupational group.
