Generations of Faith

What is Generations of Faith? Generations of Faith is a new approach to faith formation for all ages of the Newman community. This program is already well established in a number of parishes throughout the Diocese and Bishop Kmiec recommends its use. It provides an opportunity for all ages to learn and grow together while gaining a better understanding of the Church so people can have more meaningful participation in church events.

What is the focus? The events of church life are the focus of Generations of Faith. Topics include: Justice, Morality, Prayer, Creed, Church Year, and Sacraments. The theme of our first year will be Justice. We will educate through age-specific learning, inter-generational learning, and family- centered learning. There will be guest speakers, small group discussions, activities, and much more.

What do we do? The night begins with a shared meal followed by an introduction to the night’s topic and an opening prayer. From there, participants break out into age specific groups for activities. All age groups learn about the same topic, however the lesson is customized to their age level. There is a whole group sharing experience, the distribution of the home kit, and a closing prayer to wrap up the evening.

What is the Home Kit? This is for participants to use in their own home, the “domestic church.” Prayers, crafts, readings, and other activities reinforce and expand on the material that was covered during the event.

Session dates are: September 7th, October 5th, November 2nd, December 7th (Advent Celebration), January 4th, February 1st, March 1st, April 5th, and May 3rd. The night begins with a potluck meal at 5:00 and the small group break-out sessions begin at 6:00.
