Greetings,
We hope your semester is going well. To keep you moving forward, we have some great events for you!
- Thursday Night Dinners: The weather is getting colder, stop by for a warm home-cooked meal! Join us every Thursday night at 6:30pm for a home-cooked meal prepared by our permanent community. After the meal, stick around to play pool, watch the game on the big screen, or just unwind with friends. We have Mass prior to every dinner at 6pm in the Chapel. The first Thursday dinner will begin Thursday, January 26th.
- For All Saints: Join us on Thursday, January 26th at 7pm for coffee, cake, and conversation about the book, My Life With the Saints by James Martin, S.J. Bring your perspective and enjoy the time with the Saints at Newman.
- Gacek Scholarships: Are you a Buffalo State student who lives out your Catholic faith in a special way and maintains passing grades? Maybe you volunteer, teach religious education, serve in youth ministry, promote social justice issues, or assist your parish. If so, you would be eligible for the Michael and Helen Gacek Scholarship! Applications will be available at The Newman Center in the coming weeks.
- Family Spirit Bake Sale: Family Spirit will be holding a bake sale on Sunday, February 5th. The proceeds will benefit the BSC Alternative Spring Break trip to Philadelphia, PA.
- A Birthday Bash: Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman, for whom Catholic Campus Ministry Centers at Public Universities and Colleges in the U.S. are named, was born on February 21, 1801. We will celebrate his life and works at both liturgies on Sunday, February 19. You are all invited to brunch at 10:30am. Sign-ups sheets will be posted in the coming weeks.
- Save the Date: Father Bob Pecararo, S.J., will be with us again from 7-9pm on Monday, March 26, through Wednesday, March 28, to lead us deeper into the heart of Christ in a series titled "The Cross, the Tomb, and the Resurrection".
- Seek and Ye Shall Find: We encourage all of you to use http://www.goodsearch.com as your search engine. Select Buffalo State College-Friends of the Newman Center as your organization. Click verify and your searches will begin to raise money for Newman!
- Service Saturdays: Join Carmen and fellow students for a few hours of service. The third Monday of every month, community members serve at Friends of the Night People near Allentown. You are welcome to join us. Contact Carmen at schaffcb@buffalostate.edu to reserve a spot or for more information on meeting times, length of service, and other opportunities.
- Attention bloggers: We now have an active blog! Check us out and join the discussion on our new message and discussion forum: http://newmancenteratbuffalostatecollege.blogspot.com/
- Student Council: The Council is planning and preparing for many events and it would like your input. If you're interested in joining, please contact Peer Minister Nathan Rey at reynm01@mail.buffalostate.edu.
- Changes to the Mass Responses: The new Roman Missal will be taking effect on the first Sunday of advent on November 27th. The Diocese has information on the changes to help you follow along. http://old.usccb.org/romanmissal/
New Year's Prayer:
O God of ancient blessing,
your servant Mary pondered in her heart
the treasured words spoken about her Son,
our Savior Jesus Christ.
Bless us, as we gather in his name,
and prepare our hearts to receive his Spirit,
that our tongues may confess him Lord,
every day of this new year,
and for ever and ever.
Amen
Peace,
Fr. Pat, Sr. Candice, Carmen, and Michele
