On behalf of the faculty and staff at Buffalo State College, the Orientation Office welcomes you to the community. As you begin this new and exciting journey, we invite you to become better acquainted with Buffalo State College by attending our Transfer Transitions Program. Transfer Transitions 2009 has been intentionally designed to meet the needs of our new transfer students and their families.

At Buffalo State College, all new students are required to attend orientation prior to the start of classes. Failure to do so will result in a hold being placed on a student’s registration.

The Transfer Transitions program provides programs, events, and information that create a common experience and promote school spirit by connecting students to each other and fostering student learning and development both in and out of the classroom.

The Transfer Transitions program includes:

  • Academic advisement with faculty
  • Fall course registration
  • Campus tours
  • Information sessions
  • An chance to meet and socialize with other transfer students
Course Registration
If you haven’t registered for classes, access the BANNER system. Before you register online, make sure you’ve done the following:
  • Obtained your user name and password
  • Reviewed your degree audit, available through Degree Navigator (accessible from the BANNER home page)
  • Planned your course schedule
Any questions regarding degree programs or course selections will be addressed at the Transfer Transitions program.

Early Arrival/Extended Program

If you are traveling a long distance, you may stay on campus the night prior to your orientation session. Please include an additional $30 for on-campus accommodations and dinner.  On-campus accommodations are for students only.

Getting to Campus

For those traveling by plane, the Buffalo Niagara International Airport is a 20 minute cab ride to Buffalo State.  This trip usually costs no more than $30 (U.S.).

For those traveling by car or public transportation, visit the college Web site, where you’ll find driving directions, maps, parking information, and bus-stop locations.

Orientation Leaders
You will be assigned to small cohort groups that are mentored by undergraduate Orientation Leaders who have participated in a highly selective and extensive training program. The Orientation Leader will guide you through the program and assist in their transition to the collegiate environment.

During the program, you will have an opportunity to meet new people, experience new things, and learn about the resources and services available to assist them in being academically and personally successful at Buffalo State College.

Students with Disabilities
Buffalo State is committed to full access for students with disabilities.  If you have a disability-related need, please call the Disability Services Office at (716) 878-4500 before Orientation.

Health Center Recommendation
As you know, immunization records must be on file with the Weigel Health Center before you can register for classes. Avoid delay.  If you haven’t already done so, send your immunization records to the health center. It takes 24 hours to remove an “immunization hold” from your registration records, so if you don’t file your immunization records prior to Orientation, you won’t be able to register for classes during the program.  Call the Weigel Health Center at (716) 878-6711 for more information.Remember!
Your $125 tuition deposit, applied to your tuition bill, is separate from the cost of Transfer Transition.
