ACEI: Association for Childhood Education International
Buffalo State College Emerging Educators Branch
The Mission of the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) is to promote and support the optimal education and development of children, from birth through early adolescence in the global community. ACEI also influences the professional growth of educators and the efforts of others who are committed to the needs of children in our changing society. Since 1892, ACEI members have worked to make the world a better place for children.
Buffalo State College Emerging Educators Branch of ACEI has six meetings through the year. In the 2006-2007 year, ACEI completed the following projects:
-Week of the Classroom Teacher Letter Writing Campaign
-“Getting a Teaching Job” with Stephanie Zuckerman-Aviles, director of Career Development.
-“Graduate School Discussion Night” with Dr. Ellen Friedland who discussed student’s options for graduate school.
-Volunteered at the annual PDS (Professional Development Schools) fall retreat.
-“Re-use a Shoe” community service project where members collected rubber soled shoes to donate to the Nike Corporation to re-use to make rubber floored playgrounds which are more safe than traditional wood chip or stone floored playgrounds.
-Six members presented in at the International ACEI Conference in Tampa, Florida. One group presented on Metacognitive Learning Strategies. Another group presented on Effective Teacher Qualities and how to be an effective teacher.
