At Henry Hudson School #28, our current theme is The World is a Small Community.  Our 644 students attend classes M/T/Th/F 9:15-3:35 and W 9:15-2:50.  Our school demographic is 44% African American, 38% Hispanic/Latino, 16% White, 1% Asian, and 1% Other.  We have 32 classrooms in total, among which are 7 Bilingual (K-6) classes that are all integrated and have SPED teachers, 3 ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) 6:1:4 classes, and MAP (Major Achievement Program) 4-6. Our staff includes ESOL, Speech, SPED, General Education, Paraprofessionals, Teaching Assistants, Clerical, Custodial, Administration, Specialists, OT, PT, and Primary Project. The core reading program is Houghton Mifflin. Grades K-6 follow the Rochester Instructional Framework, which is a workshop based instructional model. Our Math program is Investigations for K-5 and Holt Math for grade 6.  As a school, we participate in the Green School Initiative focusing on recycling, energy conservation, and education.  Our student activities include Instrumental Music-Band and clubs for grades 4-6, which include recycling, gardening, peer mediation, etc.  We offer after school tutoring programs and the RASA (Rochester After School Academy) program for Grades 3-6. We have many school activities, including the September Open House, Hispanic Heritage Celebration, Family Math and Literacy Night, Winter Concert, Arts Festival, Summer Book Bags (Gr.1 &2), and our Moving On Day Parade and Celebration.  Henry Hudson School #28 has a PTF - Parent/Teacher/Family Organization - which sponsors events such as “Muffins with Mom/Doughnuts with Dad.”  We also have partnerships with Leadership Rochester, Harris Corporation, Xerox Volunteers, Center for Youth,  East High School (TLC students), and with area colleges for student teaching placements.
