As per our annual tradition, Dr. Kimberly Blessing hosted the Student Awards Celebration in her home in the Elmwood Village, where 20-30 students, their families, and faculty attended each event.

Student Updates and Accomplishments

Kevin Meindl ‘11, Outstanding Philosophy Major, will be attending Cornell Graduate Program in Landscape Architecture (the 3rd best program in country), beginning fall 2012. Kevin presented his paper, ''Is Descartes a Monster?,'' at the First Annual Undergraduate Conference, Niagara University, spring 2011.

Nadeen Bawab ‘12, ACH & Balowitz Scholar, is pursuing a degree in law at SUNY Buffalo Law School, accepted fall 2012.

Darla Jo Joyce ‘09, Balowitz Scholar, was accepted into the Master’s program in philosophy, SUNY Buffalo, where she is pursuing interests in Epistemology, Metaphysics, and Philosophy of Race.

Jacob Platt ‘09, Balowitz Scholar, was accepted into the Master’s program in philosophy, SUNY Buffalo, where he is pursuing interests in Aesthetics, Applied Ontology, Philosophy of Law, and Metaphysical Foundation of Bioethics

Sarah Caputi, ACH & Hole Scholar, was accepted to the prestigious and competitive Summer 2012 Colorado Summer Philosophy Institute, mentored by Dr. Jason Grinnell. Under Dr. Grinnell’s mentorship she was also awarded BSC Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship Award, 2012.

Jenna Tomasello, Balowitz Scholar, was accepted into the McNair Scholars Program, fall 2012; Dr. John Draeger is her advisor.

Jason Offerman ‘12 presented ''The Moral Grounds of Autonomy,''  and Ryan Harvey commented on his paper at the Second Annual Undergraduate Philosophy Conference, RIT, May 2011.

Justin Donhauser ‘06, is just finishing up his Ph.D. in philosophy at SUNY Buffalo, and has published several articles, see below under Faculty Scholarship.

A group of twelve students from Dr. John Draeger’s PHI 401 Senior Seminar on Respect participated for the first time in the BSC Student Research and Creativity Celebration, spring 2012.

A group of four women majoring in philosophy participated in luncheon workshop: Mentoring Women in Philosophy, hosted by Drs. Kimberly Blessing and Leigh Duffy, spring 2012.

Five philosophy majors attended their first professional Philosophy Conference at NYU, Topics in Early Modern Philosophy: Metaphysics of Modality; chaperoned by Dr. Kimberly Blessing, fall 2010.
