Wilson Greatbatch, founder of Greatbatch Industries, spoke at the 2008 Chemistry Student Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Chemistry/Forensic Club, a USG-sponsored organization. Greatbatch, who achieved fame in the 1960s when he invented the first implantable cardiac pacemaker, has been providing three awards to outstanding students in chemistry for the last 30 years. His present research involves developing a way to use algae as a fuel source.
