Patricia Sullivan has written extensively on the civil rights movement, including <em>Days of Hope: Race and Democracy</em> in the New Deal Era. Currently, Sullivan is writing a history of the NAACP. Respondent Bruce J. Dierenfield is author of <em>The Civil Rights Movement</em> (2004).
