Mobility Project in Transatlantic Public Administration

This mobility project will seek to improve transatlantic undergraduate educational and training in public administration among the partner institutions. The project will familiarize students and faculty with a broad range of national perspectives on the key issues faced by the public sector and on ways in which the issues can be tackled and managed.

Total FIPSE Funding; $194,000 (4 years)

This grant is funded and administered by the U.S. Department of Education and the European Commission of the European Union. The total grant is approximately $448,987 for four years; $194,000 from the U.S. Department of Education for the U.S. partners and $254,987 at current exchange rates (Euro 190,000) from the European Union for the European partners.

This FIPSE-Atlantis grant includes three scholarships of $5,000 apiece for each of the four years of the grant for Buffalo State students who intend to pursue a career in public service. The first exchange will take place in the 2010 spring semester to Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom, followed by Babeş-Bolyai University in Romania (2011 spring semester).  Romanian and British students will study public administration and American politics and policy at Buffalo State College and SUNY Cortland.

Beginning in fall 2010, American and European students will participate in a cohort-experience throughout the fall semester, including leadership training, internships, study trip to Washington, D.C. and interaction with public administrators working in local, state, and federal offices.
