2008-2009 Report
The Political Science Department's undergraduate research agenda was full this year with our students participating in a variety of different venues.
Students Nick Gonka, Star Johnson, Ryan Marchant, and Evan Weymouth, representing the Student Political Society, travelled to New York city to attend and participate in the 2009 Annual Meeting of the New York State Political Science Association at the John Jay College of Law.
Nick and Star’s presentation, "Dissecting the African American Presidential Candidacy: The Successful Nomination of Barack Obama and Failed Bids by Other African American Presidential Candidates," was very well received by the discussant and audience.
Professor McGovern’s Senior Writing Seminar students participated in the 2009 Annual Student Research and Creativity Celebration early in May. Dan Berger, Maegen Hall, Star Johnson, Brian Sarama, and Ryan Stearns all had a chance to produce research length papers over the course of the semester and present their findings and research developments with members of the Buffalo State Community. The experience was considered a great success in that two of our returning students intend to continue their research programs with independent study.

Students conducting research who plan to present their findings in an undergraduate political science conference should become familiar with the support available through the campus Undergraduate Research Office.
