Alumnus and Faculty Publish Chapter on African American Churches and Same-sex Marriage

Buffalo State alumnus and current UB Law student Henry Zomerfeld, and Political Science assistant professor Kyeonghi Baek have published their work on African American churches and same-sex marriage as a chapter in an upcoming Sage Publications book American Multicultural Studies: Diversity, Race, Gender and Sexuality.

Lecturer Mayra Velez-Serrano has accepted a full-time position as an assistant professor with the Political Science Department beginning in fall 2012. Velez-Serrano will be teaching PSC 102: Political Analysis, PSC 230 International Relations, and PSC 308 International Organization and International Law. Congratulations, Mayra!

NEW COURSE PLANNED FOR FALL 2012

PSC 319
GAY, LESBIAN, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER, QUESTIONING POLITICS (GLBTQ POLITICS)
 
This course provides a cross-cultural, longitudinal perspective of U.S. GLBTQ movements and interest-based organizations.  It examines queer legal theory, human rights, and constitutional issues surrounding GLBTQ rights.  The course considers GLBTQ politics in the context of federalism, with examination of federal legislation such as the Defense of Marriage Act and individual state laws with respect to GLBTQ rights.  

Course Instructor:  Dr. Greg Rabb, President Jamestown City Council, Professor  of Poltiical Science and Economics at Jamestown Community College, Activist for Same Sex Civil Rights, First openly-gay candidate to win elected office in Western New York

Buffalo State Political Science Department Wins Grant to the SUNY COIL National Endowment for the Humanities Workshop in Globally-Networked Learning Environments
The Buffalo State team is working with Manchester Metropolitan University (UK) and Babes Bolyai University (Romania) to develop a globally-networked course to be launched in Fall 2012--Transatlantic Public Administration. 

This will be Buffalo State's first globally-networked course.

American, British, and Romanian students and faculty will be involved in course delivered synchronously and asynchronously.  This will be the capstone course in the Certificate in Transatlantic Public Administration and Policy, currently under development and supported by a grant from the US Department of Education, Atlantis Cooperation

Buffalo State Delegation to Travel to the United Kingdom in January to participate in the 25th Annual SUNY Model European Union.  SUNYMEU 2012 is hosted by Exeter University.
Eight of our students are playing the UK and Romania.  Two additonal students are working with SUNY Fredonia teams--playing ambassadors to the EU from Cyprus and Germany.  Stay tuned for all full report in January.
