PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

DISTANCE EDUCATION/ONLINE LEARNING

The SUNY Learning Network (http://sln.suny.edu) is a partnership with SUNY campuses to provide support in the areas of pedagogy, technology, student and faculty support and marketing services.

SLN works with campus faculty and staff to provide unparalleled online learning experiences at accredited New York State Institutions. SLN supports campuses with educational training specifically created for online teaching and learning.

SLN also provides helpdesk services for both students and faculty who participate in the SUNY Learning Network. This support gives SUNY SLN online students the opportunity to work in virtual classrooms that foster intensive interaction, individual attention, high standards, and enhanced learning outcomes.

Faculty members designing courses must attend all six workshops 1-6 (face-to-face or webinars) or participate in three online modules (SLN 201) administered through the SUNY Learning Network. Workshops are to be taken the semester before the course is intended to be taught.

Quality Matters: http://wiki.sln.suny.edu/display/SLNED/The+SLN+Quality+Matters+Initiative

SUNY Learning Network has partnered with Quality Matters to provide a rubric and process for the continuous improvement of online courses, as well as the professional development of experienced online faculty. As a benefit of membership in SLN Education Services, this initiative is a cost effective program that facilitates a course review process which utilizes the QM rubric and tools. For professors and instructors, the SLNQM Initiative provides a collegial forum for productive collaboration with peers in the SUNY system. SLN provides training, coordinates the Peer Review process, and recognizes faculty for their participation and efforts. To register for training or to be a Peer Reviewer - click "How to Participate".
