September 2007: People from previous efforts were invited to an initial interest meeting. Fourteen people attended to ask questions and discuss the new initiative.
October 2007: Trainers from the Rochester area provided an eight-hour, Welcoming Diversity, Dismantling Prejudice workshop for people here on campus. People from the September meeting and past members of the Coalition Building Team were invited. Fifteen people attended.
January 2008: A member of the leadership team from NCBI International organized and ran a three-day training, along with Gail Wells, to train interested people in the NCBI model. Sixteen people attended.
New Coalition Building Team (CBT) formed with twenty faculty and staff.
April 2008: First workshop sponsored by CBT. Led by Danny Velez and Adrienne Costello, this Welcoming Diversity, Prejudice Reduction workshop was open to staff and students working in Butler Library and to students in the Student Personnel Administration program. Thirty-five people attended the workshop.
May 2008: Second workshop sponsored by CBT. Led by Adrienne Costello and Theresa Harris-Tigg, this Welcoming Diversity, Prejudice Reduction workshop was open to staff and students teaching diversity and BSC 101 courses. Twenty-one people attended the workshop.
October 2008: At the request of Student Affairs and Residence Life the CBT led a discussion with students in Neumann Hall about race, racism, cultural sensitivity, and community.
November 2008: Third workshop sponsored by CBT. Led by Gail Wells, Adrienne Costello and Theresa Harris-Tigg, this Welcoming Diversity, Prejudice Reduction workshop was given to Student Personnel Administration students at the request of Professor Tim Gallineau. Fifteen students attended the workshop.
January 2009: All the people who had attended the workshops and had indicated an interest in joining the Coalition Building Team were invited to participate in a three day training session as preparation to joining the team. The session also provided a refresher for members of the team. Nineteen faculty and staff attended and after the session a new CBT was formed.
March 2009: Fourth workshop sponsored by CBT. Led by Kathy Wood and Kevin Railey, this Welcoming Diversity, Prejudice Reduction workshop was given to English Education majors/student teachers at the request of Professor Theresa Harris-Tigg. Thirty-four students attended the workshop.
May 2009: Fifth workshop sponsored by CBT. Led by Gail Wells and Kevin Railey, this Welcoming Diversity, Prejudice Reduction workshop was open to newer faculty and staff members as well as invited guests from across campus. Fifteen people experienced the training.
November 2009: The Coalition Building Team sponsors the visit of Dr. Renay Scales to campus to run a workshop titled: "Applying the Key Principles of Diversity into the Curriculum."
December 2009: NCBI team sponsors follow-up event to Dr. Renay Scales' visit - Applying Key Principles of Diversity into the Curriculum, Part II. This workshop offers hands-on discussions about particular individuals have turned NCBI principles into classroom activities and practices.
March 2010: Listening Tables sponsored by NCBI Coalition Building Team in order for students on campus to air their thoughts and feelings about the Haitian earthquake tragedy.
