Why Psychology at Buffalo State?
Opportunities to get involved: The Psychology Department at Buffalo State provides undergraduate students with opportunities often reserved for graduate students only. Internships, student groups, and advanced research projects help prepare students for graduate school and rewarding career opportunities. Psychology faculty members help students perform independent research on subjects of student interest. Students develop proposals to obtain funding and work with faculty mentors during the research project.
Personalized attention: With class sizes of 12 for Senior Seminar, 17 for Research Methods, and 30 for 400-level courses, students have the opportunity to get to know faculty members. In addition, every psychology major is matched with a faculty advisor based on academic interests and career goals. With benefits such as one-on-one academic advisement and study abroad and student exchange programs, Buffalo State is focused on academic success.
Award-winning students: Every year, one graduating undergraduate student at Buffalo State College is awarded the President’s Medal. Since 2003, four of those students, Viktoriya Magid, Francisco Lopez, Nicole Maiorana, and Natale Sciolino have been psychology majors. The highest honor given by SUNY is the Chancellor’s Medal. Since 2003, the Chancellor’s Medal has been awarded to ten psychology majors: Paulette Wydro, Viktoriya Magid, Andrew Verity, Sarah Wilson, Francisco Lopez, Nicole Maiorana, Nija Marshall, Jessica Bryant, Kate Norwalk, and Natale Sciolino.
Success beyond college: Recent graduates have entered such graduate schools as Arizona State University, Colorado State University, Lehigh University, Pennsylvania State University, the University at Buffalo, the University of Rochester, Western Illinois Unversity, Widener University, and Texas Tech. Further, our graduates can be found working in every facet of psychology.
