Catherine Hazelton, Class of 2005
Master’s Student in Niagara University’s School Psychology Program
"I have grown academically as well as personally within the halls of Buffalo State’s psychology department. I am confident that, with the knowledge I have obtained, I can achieve my goal to become a school psychologist."
Students who graduate with a major in psychology have several career options. There are many types of jobs open to individuals with a baccalaureate degree in psychology. Others choose to pursue graduate training at either the masters or doctoral level.
It is a good idea to start planning your career while you have plenty of time left in school. That way, you can tailor your experiences here to make sure that you will love your career later.
The best place to start is with your advisor. If you are reading this page, it is time to make an appointment!
For guidance on the types of careers open to psychology majors, visit the Career Development Center’s Careers in... page. For information on other services offered by the Career Development Center, visit their homepage.
One good way to do that is through the internship program. An internship can help you choose with what population you want to work, can give you local contacts (many students have received jobs through their internships), and can give you a boost if you choose to go to graduate school.
You may wish to plan for graduate school. There are several master’s degree programs and one doctoral program available locally and hundreds more if you are willing to move for your training.
There are also many local agencies and businesses that have hired psychology graduates from Buffalo State in the past and many more that might hire you if your interests and skills match their needs.
