Dr. Norvilitis is a Clinical Psychologist specializing in children with ADHD, both in the United States and cross-culturally. More recently, due to the issues she sees everyday, she has become interested in consumer debt in college students. Dr. Norvilitis earned her master’s and doctoral degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI and has been a faculty member at Buffalo State since 1997.
When not teaching or doing research, Dr. Norvilitis spends time working on this web site and writing the department newsletter. Dr. Norvilitis welcomes students who are interested in doing research with her or who are interested in helping out with the newsletter.
Research Interests:
Emotional Competence and Psychopathology in Children and their Parents, Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder, Cross-Cultural Issues, and Credit Card Debt in College Students.

Recent Students Mentored Include:
Jennifer Felber: Jennifer, recipient of the Psychology Department's David Vernon Bullough Outstanding Senior Award graduated in May, 2008. She completed her honors thesis on view toward steroid use and eating disorders among college students. She presented her research at the Student Research and Creativity Celebration in April, 2008. She is enrolled in the doctoral program in school psychology at Central Michigan University.
Kate Norwalk: Kate, a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award and the Psychology Department's David Vernon Bullough Outstanding Senior Award, graduated in May, 2007, after completing her honors thesis. She presented her research on factors related to persistence in college students with ADHD at the Association for Psychological Science in Washington, D.C. in May, 2007 and her work is in press in the Journal of Attention Disorders. She now attends Pennsylvania State University's doctoral program in school psychology.
Rachel Sunley: Rachel, co-recipient of the Psychology Department's Esther McGinnis Award, graduated in May, 2007. She completed an honors thesis on emotional competence in children with differing subtypes of ADHD. She presented her research at the Student Research and Creativity Celebration in April, 2007. She is enrolled in the Masters of Public Health program at the University at Buffalo.
Emily Woodring: Emily, who graduated in May, 2007, completed a research study on social support of parents of children in Head Start. Emily received an undergraduate student mini-grant to complete her project, which she presented at both the Eastern Psychological Association Conference in Philadelphia in March, 2007 and at the Student Research and Creativity Celebration.
Jessica Bryant: Jessica, a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award, graduated in May 2006 after completing an honors thesis. She is a graduate of the University at Buffalo's School Psychology Master's Program. She presented her research on career maturity in students with and without learning disabilities at the Annual Conference of the Eastern Psychological Association in Baltimore, MD in March, 2006.
Nija Marshall: Nija, a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award, graduated in May 2006 after completing an honors thesis. She is a gradudate of the University at Buffalo's School Psychology Master's Program. She presented her research on weight fluctuation in college freshman at the Annual Conference of the Eastern Psychological Association in Baltimore, MD in March, 2006.
Cheyenne Hughes: Cheyenne graduated May 2005 after completing an honors thesis. She presented her research on body image in sixth grade students at the American Psychological Society Convention in Los Angeles in May, 2005. She now attends Lehigh University's School Psychology doctoral program.
Courtney McMann: Courtney graduated in May 2005 after completing an honors thesis on the role of self and other perceptions in ADHD. She presented her research at the Student Research and Creativity Celebration. Courtney is a graduate of the University at Buffalo's School Psychology Master's Program.
