PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Nija Marshall, Class of 2006

Recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award

"The Psychology Department offers a close-knit supportive environment amongst faculty and students. The curriculum is challenging yet comprehensive and all in all leading to an extremely rewarding experience."

The B.A. program offers a broad background in psychology, including statistics, experimental methods, and history and systems. Students take courses in biological and cognitive psychology; social and developmental psychology; and clinical and applied psychology. Areas of study include learning, perception, cognition, animal behavior, life-span development and aging, social processes, industrial-organizational psychology, personality, and normal and abnormal behavior.

The B.S. program is designed for students who have well-defined, specialized career interests in specific areas. This program has more required courses than the B.A. program, and students must formally apply to and be accepted to the B.S. program. B.S. students choose one of six specializations: aging, biological psychology, clinical psychology, environmental psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, or infancy.

Both the B.A. and B.S. honors programs are for students who have demonstrated high standards of achievement. Honors students complete a comprehensive original research project. Contact the department for honors program information.
