REGISTRAR'S OFFICE

DEGREE NAVIGATOR

Degree Navigator 5 : Improvements.

Over the last few years we have continued to work with our vendor Decision Academic in addressing comments and feedback we have received concerning Degree Navigator.

The following list are improvements that are a part of Degree Navigator Version 5:

1.  New Username Lookup which allows for:

  • Being able to search for students based on Major code, Minor code and Concentration Codes.
  • The returned results are in the form of a hyperlink, where you click on the student and get brought immediately into their Degree Navigator record.

2.  Automatic launching of the Buffalo State College full audit report, when the students program of study is selected.

3.  Advising notes section displayed to the student/ staff/ faculty immediately upon login of Student.  This will allow another alternative of tracking advising sessions and provide another means of communication between Advisor and Advisee.

4.  New Online tutorials on using Degree Navigator:

  • One geared toward the transfer student
  • One geared toward a student that has only attended BSC
  • One geared toward advisors

5.  New "My Websites" area which allows for the student to be linked from within Degree Navigator to the Departmental Website of their program of study, as well as the online General Education document that is related to what they are following (GE2K, or IF)

6.  New section at the bottom of the audit titled "Invalid Repeated Courses" to alert the student and advisor of any courses the student has taken that the audit can not use.  This will be highly effective in identifying any issues with transfer credit that will need the intervention of an Admissions Processor.

7.  New left to right layout to improve the navigation within the program

8. Built in link to the recently implemented GPA Calculator, http://www.buffalostate.edu/registrar/documents/GPACalculator.html which allows students meeting with their advisor to do a "what if" on the grades they plan on obtaining this semester, and see how those new grades will impact their Overall Grade Point Average.

9. Built in link for students to the recently developed "Students: Questions and Concerns Form to Audit", which allows for a student to report any concerns they have regarding their audit sheet to the audit personnel in the Registrar's Office, without needing to leave Degree Navigator to do so.

10. More effective labeling to a few of the requirements that have caused traffic over the years such as:

  • Completed Credits (Including Present Registrations): 118 of 120
  • 120 credits are required to complete this degree.  This is the All College Electives Section.

This is the list of immediate improvements that will be seen with Degree Navigator 5.

There are still other improvements on the way.

Please email audit@buffalostate.edu if you have feedback, concerns or questions regarding Degree Navigator.  Please also remember to check the cyberquad training schedule for upcoming Degree Navigator Introductory courses.
