UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE APPLICATIONS: To graduate from Buffalo State, you must file a degree application with the Registrar's Office, Moot Hall 210, by the deadline for the semester in which you want to graduate. Undergraduate degree applications are available in the Registrar's Office, Moot 210, or may be downloaded here. This form is in pdf format and thus requires Adobe Reader. If downloading the application online, you must print it out and fill in all requested information; submit the printed form to:

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS: (from Buffalo State Undergraduate Catalog 2005-06, page 27. See your catalog for more details) All students expecting to qualify for an undergraduate degree from Buffalo State must fulfill the following requirements: File application with the Registrar's Office, Moot Hall 210, by the specified date. Failure to make application before the date may eliminate you from the commencement Bulletin. You must meet all financial obligations to the college and return all college property. You must meet all curricular requirements. You must have completed the prescribed curriculum for your major. If requirements have changed since you were admitted to a program, you may choose to graduate under the old or new requirements. You must maintain a 2.0 cumulative average for all coursework taken at the college. The cumulative average for the courses taken in the major field must also be at least 2.0. The college requires all matriculated students to demonstrate college level skills in English composition and basic mathematics. You should refer to the college catalog under which you entered. You must have taken 42 to 66 credits in the general education area. All candidates must have completed a minimum of 45 credits of upper-division coursework courses generally considered advanced and numbered 300-499 (Foreign Language 201, 202, and 210 courses are also considered upper division). A minimum of 32 credits including the last 16 must be completed at the college. Foreign language requirements, where appropriate, must be fulfilled. A minimum of 120 academic credits must be completed Two "writing intensive" courses with the designation "W" following the course number are required. Three Credits of Diversity. Three credits of Global Issues are required for GEC students. You should refer to the college catalog under which you entered. Elementary Education majors must fulfill a drug education requirement and should file a certification application with the Teacher Certification Office, Caudell Hall 110. You will not be cleared for graduation until all symbols of "I", "N", or "X" have been replaced with an appropriate grade. |

1. Missing a course required in the Major 2. Had an I, N, or X grade on Academic Record: All coursework must be completed no later than the date of graduation I = Incomplete – Must be completed by ten weeks into the first Spring or Fall semester after the “I” was earned or it converts to an “E” Complete the contract you signed with your instructor. N = Grade delayed – Contact your Instructor. X = Grade NOT submitted – see your instructor. 3. Fewer than 120 hours completed 4. Fewer than 45 hours completed in upper level courses: Upper level = 300 and 400 courses and foreign language 201, 202, and 210 5. Foreign Language Requirement not completed: All students are required to complete a 102 course or two years (units) of one foreign language in high school. If you are a transfer student with high school foreign language credits, request that your high school transcript be sent to the “Admissions Office, ATTN: Foreign Language Review.” 6. Lacking a List A or B for GE2K core requirements Appropriate courses are listed in the college catalog, or at http://www.buffalostate.edu/registrar/documents/ge2000.htm 7. Lacking a writing intensive course .To fulfill the writing intensive requirement, the section of the course you register for must have a “W” designation as part of the course number, (example: ENG300W.) 8. Major average below 2.00 Courses in your major must have average 2.00 or higher. Your cumulative (overall) gpa must also be 2.00 or higher 9. Lacking a GEC “core” requirement: 10. COMMENCEMENT Commencement is held each year at the end of the spring semester. The 2008 Commencement honors December 2007 graduates, and May and August 2008 potential degree candidates. Commencement information is mailed during spring break to the permanent mailing address of each student who applies for graduation by the appropriate deadlines. Commencement 2008 will be held on Saturday, May 10 in the Sports Arena. Ceremonial Dates from 2007: The Baccalaureate ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The Master’s/CAS ceremony will be held at 6:00 p.m. Ticket distribution begins on Wednesday, April 11.
