ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATIONS - CANISIUS COLLEGE

Additional Accommodations for New Transfer Students

SUNY Buffalo State has seen a significant increase in enrollment for this upcoming academic year. As a result, on campus housing has also seen an increase in demand.  In addition, one residence hall is currently off line for renovation during the 2014/2015 academic year.

SUNY Buffalo State is providing housing for the majority of the incoming transfer students at Canisius College.  While assigning on campus housing is the optimal solution, housing students at off-site locations is not uncommon at many colleges and universities.  Moreover, we are excited to partner with Canisius College in providing these alternative accommodations for our students.

Below are answers to some commonly asked questions regarding this situation.

Why do we have more residents than beds available?

The increased interest in Buffalo State, as evidenced by the largest applicant pool in recent history, coupled with the high demand for on-campus housing among new and returning students was not anticipated.  This, combined with having to take one residence hall off-line for renovations during the 2014/2015 year, has created limited capacity for on-campus housing.

Who is being assigned to Canisius College?

Transfer students who live more than 35 miles from the Buffalo State campus are assigned to Canisius College.

How long will students be assigned at Canisius College?

New students will remain assigned to Canisius College until a space becomes available on campus.  Students who have been assigned on-campus housing and are deemed a “no-show”, along with students who remain “unregistered” after August 1 will have their room assignment cancelled and the space will be reassigned to students who are housed at Canisius College.  There is a possibility that students will be housed at Canisius College for the duration of the semester; and possibly all year.

Will Buffalo State staff be available?

The Residence Life Office will maintain staffing at Canisius College as in any Buffalo State residence hall. A resident director and apartment assistants will be housed with students at Canisius College. In addition, Canisius College and Buffalo State administrative staff will communicate routinely to address any concerns.

Who makes the housing arrangements?

All housing assignments to Canisius College will be coordinated through the Buffalo State Residence Life/Housing Offices. Students will be assigned to either apartment units (Main/Delevan or Main/Humboldt) or a traditional residence hall (Campion Hall). Assignments will be based on date of housing application received with initial assignments to the apartment units first before assigning to Campion Hall.  Go to www.buffalostate.edu/residencelife/x783.xml to view your assignment information.

This pass permits unlimited access to public bus transportation routes at no additional charge. Please CLICK HERE for bus schedule.

What about food service?

Food service will be available at both Buffalo State as well as Canisius College.  Students can select a regular meal plan option at Buffalo State.  At Canisius College food will be available on a declining balance only.  The apartments have a full kitchen, including a microwave. Campion Hall has a full commercial grade kitchen available for all students to use.

We suggest students use their Buffalo State meal plans for lunch and dinner, although this is entirely up to you. All Buffalo State meals are served in the Campbell Student Union.

Is computer access available?

Computer access is available via Apogee. Apogee is an external vendor who supplies wireless access to both Buffalo State and Canisius College.  Students should access the login site through the Buffalo State portal (http://www.myresnet.com) and select your Canisius College hall assignment.

How do I pay for my housing at Canisius?

The Buffalo State Residence Life/Housing Office coordinates all payments to Canisius College. Students will be charged the Buffalo State standard double room rate ($3,530 per semester) for their housing at Canisius College. All payments should be sent to the Student Accounts Office at Buffalo State.

What should I bring?

You may bring the normal items you would have brought to the residence halls with the exception of a microwave. Flammable materials, open flamed appliances, hot plates, etc. are not permitted.

Will laundry facilities be available?

Laundry facilities are available for use at no additional charge.

Is parking available?

Limited parking is available for students assigned to Main/Humboldt and Main/Delevan.  There is no parking adjacent to Campion Hall.  All students will be required to have a Canisius College parking pass; as well as a Buffalo State parking pass.  Canisius College parking passes will be provided at no charge to students assigned to Canisius College.  You are responsible to purchase a Buffalo State student parking pass http://suny.buffalostate.edu/parkingpermits .

What type of campus security is present?

Canisius College is patrolled by their Department of Public Safety.  All residents must abide by all directives given by Canisius College personnel.  All students must abide by all rules and regulations pertaining to campus living.  http://www.canisius.edu/campus-life/public-safety
