Cramer is a Distinguished Service Professor at Buffalo State College, where she has been a member of the Exceptional Education faculty since 1985. Her professional experience includes chairing the Exceptional Education Department (1994-1999) and leadership roles in state and national professional organizations, including serving as President of the New York State Federation of the Council for Exceptional Children (1993-4), President of the Northeastern Educational Research Association (NERA) (2003-4) and Publications Chair of the Division of Developmental Disabilities (1997-2001). In 2003, she received the Burton Blatt Humanitarian Award from the Division of Developmental Disabilities of the Council for Exceptional Children, in recognition of lifetime commitment to service to people with disabilities.

The focus of Cramer’s 2005 sabbatical was an outgrowth of her work as Executive Director of the SABRE project (1999-2004). She inquired into the impact of how values result in workplace challenges as well as collaborations. She integrated the ideas and interview protocols of Howard Gardner’s 2001 book, (with co-authors Csikszentmihalyi and Damon) Good work: When excellence and ethics meet, into her research design. Her resulting book, Student Information System:  A Guide to Implementation Success (published by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers in 2005) explores best practices for individuals working on student information system implementations. Her book is a reflection on the SABRE implementation project, as well as on her research project (involving staff members at 10 institutions of higher education, as well as 4 institutions involved in a pilot version of the project). She also published an adaptation of Chapter 1 of the book (a separate research project involving over 400 schools) as an article, “Student Information System Implementations:  A context for campus change (Results of an AACRAO membership survey)” in College and University Journal, 2006, 81(2), 21-33.

Cramer’s publications include a 2006 book published by Corwin Press of The Special Educator’s Guide to Collaboration:  Improving Relationships with Co-Teachers, Teams and Families, which is a 2nd edition of Collaboration:  A Success Strategy for Special Educators (published by Allyn & Bacon in 1998) and “Keys to Successful Collaboration” in M. Lupi & S. Martin (eds.) Special Women, Special Leaders: Special Educators and the Challenge of Leadership Roles, published in 2005 by Peter Lang.  Further information about her can be found at her web site, www.sharoncramer.com

Cramer has given over 100 presentations and keynotes in 20 states and Canada. She completed her Ph.D. studies at New York University, earned an M.A.T. degree from Harvard University and a B. A. from Tufts University. She is listed in Who’s Who in America (60th edition, 2006) and Who’s Who in American Education (60th edition, 2006).
