Popovich earned several degrees from Wayne State University including a B.S. in Vocational Education in 1969; a M.Ed. in Vocational Education in 1970; and an Ed.D. in Vocational and Applied Arts Education in 1973. He has teaching experience in the Detroit Public Schools as well as at Oakland Community College, Northern Michigan University, and Buffalo State College. In addition, Popovich served a registered apprenticeship as a Machinist with General Motors Corp.

As Project Director of Buffalo State’s Gear-Up grant, Popovich has and continues to promote the Career in Technical Education (CTE) as a first choice option for high school youth. He is committed to developing career exploration activities for underserved populations and the teaching of literacy and numeracy across the CTE curriculum.
