Admissions Requirements
Current Students
Freshman and sophomore students wishing to major in social work are assigned to pre-social work so they may have the benefit of a social work faculty member for advisement. Admission to social work requires the following:
- 45 credit hours completed or in progress at the time of application.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5.
- Fulfillment of the English and math competency requirement.
- Professional social work practice requires a strong foundation in the liberal arts which includes the Humanities, the Social Sciences, and the Natural Sciences, especially Human Biology. Applicants to the Social Work Department must show progress in meeting the liberal arts foundation.

Transfer Students
- Apply to Buffalo State College.
- Have a GPA of 2.5 or better.
- Professional social work practice requires a strong foundation in the liberal arts which includes the Humanities, the Social Sciences, and the Natural Sciences, especially Human Biology. Transfer applicants must show progress in meeting the liberal arts foundation.
