How to Apply
Admissions Requirements
Current Buffalo State College Students
Freshman and sophomore students wishing to major in social work are assigned to pre-social work so they may have the benefit of a social work faculty member for advisement. Admission to social work requires the following:
- 45 credit hours completed or in progress at the time of application.
- Earned a minimum GPA of 2.5.
- Successfully completed the english (CWP101/102) and math (MAT103/110) competency requirements of the college in addition to BIO101.
- Significant progress toward completing the liberal arts degree requirements (e.g., PSY 101, SOC 100).

Transfer Students
- Apply to Buffalo State College.
- Have a GPA of 2.5 or better.
- Fulfillment of the English (CWP 101/102) and math (MAT103/110) competency requirement in addition to BIO101
- Professional social work practice requires a strong foundation in the liberal arts which includes the Humanities, the Social Sciences, and the Natural Sciences, especially Human Biology. Transfer applicants must show progress in meeting the liberal arts foundation. .
