Field Education
Placement Process
Step One Determine whether or not you qualify for field instruction. You must have successfully completed SWK 308 and SWK 422 and have maintained a 2.0 g.p.a. both overall and in the major.
Step Two Attend a mandatory workshop. Early in the spring semester of your junior year, you will be notified of a workshop schedule via e-mail, in-class announcements, and posters. You are required to attend one of them in order to begin the placement process. Immediately following the workshop, you are expected to turn in your completed field education application (PDF 21KB).
Step Three Interview with your prospective field educator. Approximately 2-3 weeks after the workshop, you will receive an interview assignment via one of your classes. The Career Development Center can help you prepare for your interview. Plan to attend a resume writing and/or interviewing workshop. You are expected to contact your prospective field educator immediately to schedule an interview. Need directions to the agency? Check out MapQuest.
Step Four Confirm your placement by the deadline. Following your interview, you should sign and return promptly the confirmation form (PDF 14KB) to the field education coordinator in Classroom Building, room C 115.
Step Five Begin your placement. Make sure that you will have arranged your internship schedule with your field educator. Unless you are placed in a school that follows its own academic calendar, you are expected to begin your field assignment the week that classes begin at Buffalo State College.
