Welcome to the Social Work Department!
Social workers are agents of change. They may connect individuals or communities with needed resources, advocate for human rights, or serve people of all ages and backgrounds who face a variety of life challenges.
Buffalo State's Social Work Department offers a bachelor of science in social work degree that educates graduates in a field that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has indicated will grow 25% faster than the average for all occupations through 2020.
Social Work positions in Buffalo, NY
Our program has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education since 1975 and is unique in that it combines relevant academic preparation, with hands-on practical experience.
Mr. Yohan Cho (below right) and Emmanuel Rogers presented at the Buffalo Veteran's Hospital (March 19th). The event's topic was Evidence Based Treatment Models.
Mr. Cho compared the 'Treatment First' and 'Housing First' models. His research suggested that Housing First 'can end Veteran homelessness and eliminate cost for emergency shelters, transitional, and short-term treatment programs'.
Mr. Rogers (in picture with Professor Renzi) discussed the effectiveness of the 'Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC)'. The program provides social support groups that are found to be highly effective in reducing PTSD and generalized anxiety.
