Meet the Faculty

Phyllis B. Pomerantz

M.S.W., 1975, University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana

Professor Pomerantz has been a full-time faculty member since 1977. She teaches in the areas of Interventive Methods, Human Behavior, and Field Studies. Her special interest and research reflect her years of working with at-risk populations including families, teen parents, and children. She has experience in training clinicians, supervising, directing mental health programs, conducting therapy, case consultation, as well as developing model programs, grant writing, and implementing grant funded programs. She is Project Director/ Principal Investigatior of Families United, an HIV/AIDS Prevention Model Program for minority teenaged parents. Through this program, Professor Pomerantz has generated $1,750,000 in federal grants in the last five years from the National Institutes of Health's Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services. She has presented at national conferences including the Center for Disease Control's annual prevention conference. She has published her work in numerous journals including the Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychology, Child Welfare, and Progressive Human Services. Recently she was selected as the 2004 recipient of the Buffalo State College's Student Award for Promotion of Respect for Diversity and Individual Differences.
