Professor Zittel-Palamara is a medical social worker who has instructed, researched, and worked clinically in dental medicine, postpartum mood disorders, mental health, and geriatrics. Her primary focus is improving access to care. Under her co-development and direction, the CARES Program at the UB Dental School won the ADA’s Geriatric Oral Health Care Award for improving access to dental care. In 2005, she was elected chair of the Behavioral Sciences Section of the American Dental Education Association. Currently, she is the director of the Postpartum Mood Disorders Initiative at Buffalo State College, committee member for the Buffalo State College Women’s Studies program http://www.buffalostate.edu/womensstudies, and board member of Postpartum Resource Center of New York (PRCNY) www.postpartumny.org, where she is collaborating to develop a “satellite” hub for the PRCNY in WNY. She has published nearly twenty peer-reviewed articles; lectured locally, nationally, and internationally; and her book for the NASW Press, "Postpartum Mood Disorders: A Guide for Health, Mental Health and Support Providers? 1;, is due for release in February 2010. Dr. Zittel-Palamara has received serveral national and regional awards for her clinical and research accomplishments including the 2007 NASW Social Worker of the Year Award. In her free time, she spends time with her family, composing music, painting, writing about faith/spirituality/theoretical physics, and mentors women toward their personal/spiritual/educational goals.
