Sociology, the study of human society and its institutions, problems, relations, and organization, provides students with exciting areas of study and sets its graduates on the path to interesting and rewarding employment opportunities.
The Buffalo State Sociology Department's bachelor of arts (B.A.) and bachelor of science (B.S.) in sociology programs prepare graduates to attend graduate school or to begin careers in applied sociology, either applying computer skills to the analysis and resolution of sociological problems or as professionals in community or social service agencies. Minor programs in sociology and deviance offer students the opportunity to focus on specific areas of sociological interest.
A degree in sociology from Buffalo State means not only possessing the skills to understand, analyze, and help people and society—it also means success. A recent poll of Buffalo State sociology graduates revealed that 93 percent of graduates are employed, and three-quarters find the degree in sociology helpful in their jobs. Thirty-nine percent went to graduate school.
