The bachelor of arts (B.A.) in sociology provides students with a well-rounded and fundamental knowledge of sociology. The program provides a foundation both for employment, particularly in areas related to social service, and for graduate study.
The bachelor of science (B.S.) in sociology emphasizes applied sociology and prepares students to conduct and administer sociological research for clients such as business and financial institutions, labor organizations, criminal justice units, government agencies, health-related organizations, and social service agencies. The program stresses research skills and sociological theory. Students select one of four concentrations: socialization through the life course; deviance and social control; community, work, and organizations; and sociological practice.
The sociology minor enables students to focus on areas of sociological interest.
The deviance minor explores the nature of deviant behavior and related theoretical perspectives and societal reactions. This minor is especially attractive to criminal justice students.
