Allen Shelton's interests are in social theory, culture, the body/commodity nexus, and ethnographic reportage. He is currently working on projects involving Proust and Marx on the life of the commodity, Kafka and Weber on “steel casings” and “iron men,” and translating methodologies based on Walter Benjamin’s mapping of urban life to rural Alabama. His most recent publications are “The Mark on the Spade,” and “Planchette, My Love” in Cultural Studies <=> Critical Methodologies which are part of larger of a larger project, tentatively titled The Dreamworlds of Alabama. The final installment of the book is titled, “Assembling Mary Pullen for a Cry.”
