Beyond the Classroom

Buffalo State's sociology curriculum comes alive with a wide variety of student activities outside of the classroom- From research and professional development opportunities to internships and student organizations, sociology majors and minors are imbued with the theoretical and practical skills to lead in their chosen profession.

Applied research projects

Student projects have been presented at the Midwest Sociological Society meeting. The annual Undergraduate Sociology Conference provides students with a supportive atmosphere for presenting their work to others. Buffalo State's annual Undergraduate Research and Creativity Celebration is also a great way to work one-on-one with faculty to create original research.

Associated research centers

The Center for Health and Social Research is a leader in researching critical issues such as drunk driving, suicide, violence, substance abuse, and educational reforms. Access to new technology such as geographic information systems and computer-assisted telephone interviewing are mainstays of the strong methodological approaches used by Center's projects.

The Center for China Studies at Buffalo State promotes and coordinates research, scholarly exchanges, academic programs, and economic development with China.
